"Rods": Mysterious Sky Creatures or Just Bugs? *LINK* *PIC*

You Decide

While searching for the most recent information about the "Mystery Missile" a.k.a. "Contrail," I found a FoxTV story in Albany, NY that'd been posted to YouTube on November 10, 2010. I noted the complete lack of any "contrail" coming from this object -- as well as the unmistakable likeness of this object to the "rod" phenomenon promoted by Jose Escamilla in the mid-1990s.

I had not kept up with the "rods" story but I've since learned that it's had as many twists and turns as the movements of the highly-debated "rods," themselves. Escamilla theorized that "rods" were some kind of organic life form, moving at speeds faster than visible to the naked eyes of most people.

I vaguely recall that Escamilla had a handy little cottage industry revolving around his "rods" -- which must have suffered dramatically after a "Monster Quest" episode produced in 2006 attempted to utterly trash the "rods" concept, altogether.

Using a camera shooting at normal speed and another at super high speed, film technicians were able to prove beyond any doubt that "rods" were a video artifact produced at the normal camera speed of 30 frames per second and in every case they tested, the source of this video artifact, when shot at high speed, proved to be a moth or other insect. However, none of the "rods" depicted in Monster Quest show had the distinctive arrow-like appearance with fletchings of the classic phenomenon, as seen over the airport in Albany.

Digging deeper, I discovered that the original raw footage of the Albany "rod" whizzing past a commercial jet during take-off was shot in 2002, not in 2010...This rod sneaks behind a cloud, is estimated to be at least 200 feet long and is moving at a speed of 1,000 miles per hour.

I've assembled the original Albany clip, the FoxNews story, clips from the Escamilla film, the Monster Quest episode and slow motion footage of the Albany "rod" for you to decide for yourselves: Is the Albany "rod" an insect?
