Guest Occupation: Black Police Officer Fired After Stopping Fellow Cop’s Assault on Handcuffed Man StoryApril 19, 2021 Watch Full Show
Guest Biography:

Cariol Holloman Horne of Buffalo, New York, is known for breaking the blue wall of silence -- the informal rule among police officers in the U.S. which prohibits them from reporting on a colleague’s misconducts, errors and crimes.

Horne was a police officer in Buffalo, where she was born and raised. On November 1, 2006, she stopped her fellow Buffalo Police Department officer Gregory Kwiatkowski from choking a handcuffed arrestee, an African-American man named Neal Mack.

The action that Officer Horne took, which she was later vilified for, may have in fact saved the life of Neal Mack. In the wake of the conviction of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd, the question becomes whether similar actions would have saved his life.

Responding to a domestic dispute, and intervening to protect the suspect, Horne was charged with obstruction, sued by her fellow officer and later fired two months before her retirement, which resulted in the loss of her pension. Since Horne’s firing, she has become an outspoken activist against police brutality.

Cariol is a single mother of five children. She received the Harriet Tubman Award from the Erie County Legislature and was named Person of the Year by WUFO Radio. She received the Shero Award for Excellence in Community Service from the Los Angeles Urban Police Roundtable and was named UMOJA's Woman of the Year.

Named after her, the legislation called Cariol’s Law was signed into law in October 2020. The New York State Supreme Court reinstated her pension and ordered back pay on April 13, 2021.

Robert has just released on Frontiers Records, his new album of new music entitled Third Impression, under the name 3.2. The second 3.2 album, a band/project that is a continuation of the band 3, which featured Robert Berry, Carl Palmer, and the late great Keith Emerson.

"Third Impression," the follow up to 3.2's debut album, "The Rules Have Changed," is a fine match for its predecessor. It mixes epic songs, such as album opener “Top Of The World” and closing song “Never”, the latter co-written by Robert with Emerson, with more melodic and AOR moments.

DR. RANDALL BELL

Dr. Bell is the founder of Core IQ. As an economist and sociologist, his research has taken him to 50 states and seven continents. His cases include the World Trade Center, the Flight 93 Crash Site, the BP Oil Spill, Hurricane Katrina, the Nuclear Testing on the Bikini Atoll, and tragedies such as Jon Benet Ramsey, OJ Simpson, and the Heaven’s Gate mass suicide mansion.

The media often calls Dr. Bell the “Master of Disaster.” This experience has given him unprecedented access and insights into the cycle of disaster, recovery, and prosperity. He is known for his ability to analyze complex situations and present his findings in an interesting, organized, and intelligent way. Dr. Bell’s work has generated billions of dollars for his clients.

In Dr. Bell’s own words:

Having researched over 1,000 damage cases around the world, I can say that the world is a tough place. I’m in a pretty good position to “tell it as it is,” however I rather focus on “telling it as it can be.”

I imagine a world where everyone has full access to the life skills we all need but are not always taught in school. I see a world where everyone has access to the skills of goal setting, time management, conflict resolution, leadership, personal finance, etiquette, stress reduction, and much more. I’m convinced that these skills could have prevented some of the disasters I have seen. More importantly, they provide the foundation for people to not just survive but thrive.

The problem is that historically training for these skills has been limited to executives and the super-elite. However, everyone needs them. I founded Core IQ as a non-profit, educational foundation with the goal of providing these essential life skills to all, and never at any charge.

With Core IQ, I see a place where people can get authentic insights from top experts on life skills that have a measurable, positive impact. Our team is committed to continually researching new topics, producing more episodes, and working to increase the Core IQ of the world.

All we ask is for your feedback on how to improve, and to help spread the word.

Brandon Beachum is a podcaster, entrepreneur, author, philosopher and truth-seeker. He originally made his way to California from the East Coast when his former band received a development deal with Elektra records back in 2001. Brandon has been a serial entrepreneur since childhood, and in 2010 while living on a friend’s couch, he founded his first significantly successful company, ResortShare. In August of 2015, ResortShare was named the 569th fastest growing private company in America in the annual Inc. fastest growing companies list.

Since discussing and continually exploring what he refers to as “the ultimate nature of reality” is something he is passionate about and feels called to do, he decided that launching a podcast would be the best avenue to pursue his calling, and to help bring this increasingly popular topic of conversation to a broader audience.

So in May 2015 he launched The Positive Head Podcast. The show’s aim is to help listeners consistently maintain an elevated vibration. In an effort to help the listeners achieve that aim, every

Wednesday, he interviews a different author, director, artist, blogger, scientist, entrepreneur or other notable personality who is out there making a positive impact on the world. He’s had the privilege to interview some amazing and highly-respected guests such as Dr. Eben Alexander, Charles Eisenstein, Marian Goodell, Kevin Kelly, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Nassim Haramein, and Sahara Rose. On the other four weekdays, Brandon and his co-host openly share about how they incorporate these spiritual concepts into their day to day lives, give interpretations of their favorite quotes, take questions from the audience, and dig into any other mind- expansive topics that they feel will help keep the listeners’ souls fed on a regular basis. The Positive Head Podcast has steadily grown over the years and has consistently been recognized in the top five podcasts under the “Spirituality” category on Apple Podcasts and currently has over 15M downloads.

In July 2019 Brandon began stewarding a communal property in Venice, CA called The Mystic Manor, where, up until COVID, he regularly hosted weekly retreats and also began filming Positive Head’s evolution on a new late-night style, consciousness-elevating variety show Optimystic which consists of soul-share interviews, visionary artists live painting, musical performances, and fan co-creation, all recorded in front of a live audience.

In an effort to continue to help others to shift their perspectives to innerstand the “ultimate nature of reality” and create more of what they want to see in the world, Brandon released his first book in January 2021, The Golden Key: Modern Alchemy to Unlock Infinite Abundance. In it, Brandon shares the 8 keys of abundance, which he has unlocked over 25 years of experience and deep exploration. Guest Biography:

PETER STERLING

When the muse comes calling to any person interested in the arts, she is not always instantly heeded, but perhaps stays in the back on the person’s mind, sometimes for years. Like a lingering memory of something pleasant, she waits patiently for the stars to align and serendipity to enter the picture and that is when the muse is embraced by the person. For some, it happens early in life but for others, it may not occur until a much later period in life. This was the case for Peter Sterling.

Born in Santa Monica, Peter began playing the piano at 6 years old, first accompanying his brother who was practicing violin. For a period of four months, he played, solely by ear, for his mother’s and his own pleasure. After a family friend heard and watched Peter playing, the friend chastised him, saying he was “doing it wrong.” As would almost any child, Peter resented the statement, and stopped playing right after that.

His muse sensed his despair. However, all things come to those who waits Peter’s wait lasted more than a few years. When he was 33, he was earning a living as a ski instructor to celebrities in Aspen, Colorado. It was a good living, but from out of the depths of his memory, his muse called to him. Her siren song was not to be ignored and Peter moved to Sedona, Arizona, drawn to its energy vortices, its natural beauty, and its powerful connection to a higher purpose in life. It was in Sedona that Peter discovered his affinity for, or more accurately, his mystical connection with the Celtic harp. It was 1993 and he took to the instrument, without any formal training or lessons, like the proverbial fish to water. His playing talent sprung forth in an almost organic manner, surprising Peter most of all. As part of this emergence of his muse, and tapping into the positive energies that swirl around Sedona, Peter decided that it was time to rethink much of his life. Making changes to his diet, engaging in energy healing, chiropractic medicine, herbal treatments, and shamanic workshops, Peter “came out of the shadows,” as it were and emerged a wholly changed person.

His career as a recording artist began in 1994 with his first album, Harp Magic, released on the World Disc label. Success came almost immediately as the recording was nominated for the Best Instrumental Album award by NAIRD (now A2IM), an organization for independent musicians. His acclaim continued and grew exponentially in the 2000s with multiple nominations from the prestigious website New Age Reporter/Zone Music Reporter, including several nominations for Album of the Year. His albums consistently charted high up in their top 100, including grabbing the #1 spot for his 2013 release, Twilight Serenade. While his recent works are released on his own Harp Magic label (including his 2018 album, Magic Kingdom), Real Music, one of the giants of new age music, released his Shadow, Mist and Light album in 2005. His most recent recognition came in 2017 when he shared the Hollywood Music and Media Award for Best New Age song.

Besides his music, Peter is also a stained glass and visual artist and has been since before he began playing the harp. His beautiful art work decorates the interior of his Sedona house (including a gallery of his Portals of Light crystal alchemy paintings) which he shares with his son 7-year old son Micah (Peter is a stay at home father and loves it!). In the little spare time he has, he also conducts Jeep tours of Sedona’s canyons for private clients and he is also heavily involved with the growing CBD hemp industry. Even with such a full plate as he has, Peter found time to write a book, Hearing the Angels Sing, and he also conducts workshops on the science of sound healing and sacred geometry.

When he is asked “What is the best part of being a musician?” Peter answers “Creating music that touches the heart and soul of listeners…bring[ing] peace and healing to people all over the world. I love receiving letters about how my music has touched peoples’ lives.” Peter looks back at his path to the present now and humbled at his worldwide success. Back when he was recording his first 8-track compositions on a cassette tape in Byron Bay, Australia, and then marketing it by going door-to-door to Sedona’s stores, he could scarcely imagine that one day his music would reach people across the planet through international airplay (Pandora, SiriusXM, Soundscapes), as well as on major airlines (United and American). Sometimes, it pays to wait for just the right moment to open oneself to one’s muse.

Guest Biography:

MICHAEL NEWTON

Born in Yorkshire, grew up in South Wales. I loved music from an early age, and I learned many instruments while playing drums in a punk band. I was accepted into College at 16 years old to study music and electronics.

I graduated 1980 during the beginnings of electronics and computers in music.I had an exciting career commuting between LA and London. So I started out an early adopter of tech when a revolution was happening.

I met my wife in San Diego. We had a great life. My wife suffered with depression that became worse, so we relocated to the rural Midwest to be closer to her Mom and sister. I got a regular job in IT, so I could be a better caregiver. Several years passed, and I suffered a stroke. Shortly thereafter, my wife’s sister and mother died accidentally. This was all too much for my wife’s mental state so she took her own life..

This left me 2 dogs and 2 cats stranded in the rural Midwest with no support and less than adequate health facilities or therapists. So I turned to music as my therapy. I first had to figure out my recording systems, and I entered music in step time because my tremors in my right hand made playing impossible. I wanted to document my progress in music and to date have written nearly 1000 tracks on Soundcloud created whilst volunteering for a theater post production audio and scoring a series of local radio plays. However my reading, writing, and speech needed help. I cussed a lot, which is a normal symptom post stroke, and people say I am blunt. This amount of trauma will do that to a person.

I managed to contact an old friend musician Lightyear in Florida, and via Skype, embarked on a book study every Sunday until my reading and speech improved. I went to therapy groups and was just about to venture into the real world when the pandemic hit.

If I wasn’t isolated before I was now. I had been using a virtual reality headset for exercise and meditation, and although I had worked with 3D modeling software in my career, I still lacked the motor control to build anything in VR. I discovered Social VR and with the help of music industry friends like Lightyear who were dealing with challenges due to COVID 19 persuading them to join me in building worlds in VR. Group therapy and support meetings began to flourish covering all kinds of mental health issues in a tailored space – people say they feel more present  compared to zoom.

Using social VR i have reconnected with old industry friends and made new ones. The VR community is growing organically with community input. New experiences are being created in media, education and support groups. I have seen theatrical productions conceived, cast and rehearsed in VR gone to comedy clubs talk shows all created by the VR community.

To this end, I help co host a weekly event virtual discussion of content creation where we help foster the community in our story-based mentorship. Whether you are a seasoned professional, content creator, or just curious, this is the place for you to turn dreams into reality, and it is truly a mind blowing event.

My life has had its challenges, but I am optimistic about the future. Social VR, I believe, will be the next generation of media, and I am so glad to play some part in it to help share it with the world.

I was already struggling before this happened, I suffer from constant chronic pain from bone and joint issues and fibromyalgia, chronic headaches, and bipolar, all of which were magnified during this. The weight gain from being in bed all those years did not help things either, I was over 300 lbs.

I will wholeheartedly admit that for a while I resigned myself to the idea that I would never really do anything ever again. My brain and my body were now my enemies. My goals, my dreams… were never going to happen.

Due to my past, I already considered myself a survivor, a warrior; my mantra was that nothing could keep me down for long. I refused to let this be any different…

I started studying nutrition for healing from my bed, I became obsessed with what I needed to eat to heal my brain and my body. And so, after about 5 years in bed full time, my journey (my fight) back to me began…

I changed the way I thought about food completely and I changed my diet to heal, including vitamin-packed smoothies every morning.

One day, while researching, I came across an ad (thank you Google!!) for a “superfoods” shake, it had so much of what I was trying to get into my body to heal and so much more at a fraction of the cost of what I was spending on my morning smoothie routine. The “superfoods” shakes were part of a complete health & fitness program that also came with an option of having a health & fitness coaching business; it was exactly what I needed at the time.

I will never say that the shakes were a miracle cure, I am not cured however, I do think that they saved me. The vitamins, the minerals, the nutrients, the superfoods… they fed my brain and body what was necessary to start the healing process, gave me energy, and cut down how much food my body needed. The program also included a ton of information on nutrition and eating right.

I could not do the fitness part of the program in the beginning, but I did have them playing on my TV 24/7, to inspire me. In my first months in this program, I would get up to go to the bathroom and do 30 seconds of the workout video, on my way back to bed I did another 30 seconds... and then I dropped into my bed exhausted and in pain. In year two I was averaging 2-5 minutes at a time a few more times a day.

As part of my healthy new life goals, I decided that I wanted a garden and as I transitioned from year two to year three of my journey, I made it happen. Everyone told me to start small, a few beds; I never do anything small and my garden that year was 14 raised beds. I brought everything I needed in by the bag and mixed the soil by hand, planted, weeded, and harvested mostly by myself; it was painstaking, and I paid for it, but it was so worth it. The next year I added another 13 beds to my garden for a total of 27.

It was during this time that my financial situation changed, I could no longer afford my shakes. I did not have the self-esteem, confidence, or results I needed to be a successful health and fitness coach and I left the company. I did still have my workout programs and my nutrition plan but I was still in bed the majority of this time.

The next year my youngest daughter got a job in a factory that made car parts, she called me on her break the first day and said “Mom, they have free coffee!”. My response “I am in!”. I was frustrated with everything in my life; I was barely surviving financially, I decided that even though I was still having issues walking (when this all started I could only do about 20 steps) and still having cognitive issues, that I could not live like this anymore. I was going back to work.

And so, I went to work at a factory making car parts, on my feet 8 hours a day in heavy work boots on concrete floors; averaging 15,000 steps a day, 6 or 7 days a week. By the time I got home most days, I fell into my bed sobbing in agony; I was pushing myself way past my limits every single day.

Now in year 7 of my journey (my fight) back to me, I would love to say that I am healed, no longer suffering from pain or any lasting effects of the stroke, but I cannot. I am still in constant pain and I still have cognitive issues including memory and learning issues. I also started having idiopathic seizures in the last year.

However…

I am now back with the company that kick-started this journey into high gear for me, back on my “superfoods” shakes, working out daily, using my determination, passion, and the tools and programs I used, to coach other women and help them achieve their health and fitness goals. The obvious signs of what I have been through are not apparent, most of the time you cannot even tell I am in pain.

The most amazing part of all of this is that in my strength and determination I have found my true calling in life and I am working towards transitioning into “whole” life coaching. I love helping women go after and reach their health and fitness goals but so much of the time, as I found out with myself, there are often much deeper limitations to not being able to reach goals. For me, it was 75% mindset, 20% nutrition, and 5% fitness. I want to change mindsets and impact the lives of women on whole other levels. Through my adversity, I have found my strengths, my passion, my purpose.

with The Renaissance Chamber Orchestra”

and featuring special guest Jim McCarty!

Renaissance is a band with a rich history unique unto themselves as progressive rock pioneers who rose from the ashes of the seminal UK rock band, The Yardbirds. Acclaimed for their unique blending of progressive rock with classical and symphonic influences, the band’s career has now spanned fifty years spearheaded by the five-octave voice of Annie Haslam and the masterful songwriting skills of Michael Dunford. They are widely considered to be the band that most successfully and routinely utilized the sound of a full orchestra in their recordings.

The band has toured throughout the world and has performed at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and additionally at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Chorale Society. Renaissance had a top ten hit in the UK with their song “Northern Lights” that still demands airplay to this day.
